2000 and beyond
In the 21st century, ATCO’s commitment to adaptive reuse remains constant.
Dale has continued to buy, sell and adapt real estate not only in New York
City but also in other parts of the country. He has also been involved with
many organizations dedicated to strengthening the stability of the New York
metropolitan area.
Dale’s son, Damon Hemmerdinger, and his daughter, Katherine Hemmerdinger
Goodman, are now the fourth generation to take an active role at ATCO.
“My sister
and I are looking forward to expanding on our already dynamic relationship
with the community,” explains Damon. “For example, Queens is
now home to increasingly affluent residents who enjoy more leisure time.
Barely any manufacturing is done locally. So in an effort to meet the needs
of our Queens neighbors and tenants, we are transforming the site formerly
known as Atlas Terminals into “The Shops At Atlas Park”. We
are the first firm in the New York City area to create a “lifestyle
center,” a vibrant shopping, dining, and entertainment village. My
belief in this project is so strong, that I am moving my family into a building
that is only two blocks from my great-grand father’s original Queens
home!” |
